A man who police say exposed himself while he tried to rob a cafe employee at gunpoint has been charged with attempted robbery and indecent exposure.
Court documents tell of an unusual scene, and police say one of the victims was so terrified that she quit her job.
The incident happened about 11:15 a.m. on November 1 in the 9400 block of Delridge Way Southwest. Police say Eric Ross, an 18-year-old Tukwila man, was using his iPhone at a table.
He then allegedly unzipped his pants and fondled himself, "then withdrew a small black handgun from his pants with his right hand, pointed it directly at the victim and yelled, "Give me the money," Detective Shayne St. John wrote in a probable cause statement.
The employee ran from the cafe.
Police say Ross then casually made his way to a Mexican restaurant in the 1600 block of Southwest Roxbury Street and exposed himself to a woman employee.
During the investigation, police say they learned Ross had been in the cafe on Oct. 30 and made a sexual comment to the woman owner, who was working alone. The following day, investigators believe he exposed himself at the Mexican restaurant in a separate incident, according to court documents.
Video surveillance cameras captured Ross walking in the area of a nearby espresso stand after he exposed himself at the Mexican restaurant on November 1, according to court documents. The following day, Ross contacted detectives by phone and agreed to travel to the southwest precinct.
He admitted to being at the cafe, restaurant and espresso stand on the days in question, but stated he had a sex toy in his pants and did not expose himself, according to court documents.
Ross denied that he tried to rob anyone and stated he never had a gun. Police searched his residence and vehicle and found the toy he described, but not a gun, court documents show.
He remains in King County Jail and the court case is ongoing.
