Now this is November -- windstorm batters region

SEATTLE -- What seemed like an innocuous storm instead packed quite a wallop as strong winds rolled through Western Washington Monday.

Gusts were over 60 mph in some spots, knocking trees over, and cutting power to over 100,000 customers across the region.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 5 were closed Monday evening at milepost 239 due to downed trees across the roadway. One lane was reopen by 9:35 p.m

In Seattle, 17,000 City Light customers were dark, with the largest outages reported in West Seattle and Rainier Valley, according to Seattle City Light (View Seattle power outage map).

Puget Sound Energy says 45,000 of their customers were without power. Meanwhile, Snohomish County PUD says they had over 20,000 people in the dark in scattered outages through the county. Peninsula Light Company says 26,000 people are without power.

Grays Harbor PUD reported an outage impacting about 516 customers in the Oakville area.

Power outages were also reported in parts of Seattle, Sedro-Woolley, North Tacoma, Federal Way, Olympia, Covington, Gig Harbor and northern Snohomish County

The strongest gust so far was 61 mph in Oak Harbor. Here are some other gusts from the night:

A High Wind Warning was in effect through 1 a.m. for the greater areas of Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Oak Harbor, Anacortes, and all of Whidbey, Camano and San Juan Islands and western Skagit County.

A lesser Wind Advisory is in effect from Marysville south through Olympia and points east through 1 a.m. for gusts to 50 mph through 1 a.m.

Gusty winds will continue through the early morning hours then taper off.
